Tax Manager

OVERVIEW OF ORGANIZATION
Our client is a prominent family office providing alternative investments, trust services and integrated wealth management services to four generations, located in downtown Chicago. The office serves complex investment partnerships, trusts of varying size and foundations. This organization takes pride in having created a collaborative and innovative environment where employees are encouraged to share knowledge and actively participate in projects and discussions across practice areas. The office is dynamic with sophisticated technology, numerous complex structures and many ongoing initiatives that will make this position interesting and challenging.

THE POSITION
The Tax Manager will report to the Manager of Investment Accounting. Proactive communication of the impact of tax laws and their implications for partnerships, trusts and other entities is also an essential component of the position. This position calls for strategy, consulting, and audit skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply tax knowledge and expertise to manage the federal and state tax compliance process for private equity partnerships while maintaining relationships with outside tax professionals
  • Provide technical tax support for family trusts and other entities
  • Manage the receipt and reconciliation of K-1s, Form 1099s and PFICS and prepare and maintain tax basis worksheets for each K-1 investment
  • Respond to investors’ tax preparers when there are questions regarding the private equity partnerships’ K-1s and 1099s
  • Proactively research complex technical tax issues and communicate their impact on partnerships, trusts and related entities in a non-technical manner
  • Assist with the creation of new investment partnerships and structures and identify, propose and implement process improvements
  • Research and advise on a full spectrum of tax services

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA is required, with 8 -12 years of experience in public accounting
  • An advanced tax degree (MST, JD, LLM) is desired
    Desired experience as a Senior Manager or seasoned Manager in a public accounting firm with relevant tax experience working with investment partnerships and trusts.
  • Strong technical tax skills with an emphasis on investment partnership tax concepts & private equity and related Schedule K-1 reporting and footnotes
  • Exceptional analytical skills and strategic problem-solving skills
  • Strong aptitude for technology and experience with sophisticated accounting software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Our client is a leading Philanthropic Foundation based in the city of Chicago that supports efforts to elevate poetry to a more visible and influential position in society. This organization aims to shape a receptive climate for poetry by developing new audiences, creating new avenues for delivery, and encouraging new kinds of literature. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Executive Assistant to the President position provides administrative and scheduling support to the President and Board of Directors of the organization.This role reports directly to the President and is responsible for establishing systems for and managing all administrative aspects of the President’s work.

– Calendar management of both internal and external meetings with foundation functions and Board of Directors

– Creation, revision and typing of internal written communications and external general correspondence

KEY REQUIREMENTS:
– 7+ years of executive assistant experience with strong office management and technical capabilities
Must be highly skilled in schedule organization and coordination
– Effective written and oral communicator with a professional, friendly and confident, personality both in person and on the telephone
– Highly proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite; proficiency with typing (minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute)
– Flexible and skilled multi-tasker and ability to self-manage projects with excellent time management abilities, capable of meeting deadlines on time

Financial Planner

Our highly-regarded client is a well-established, multi-generational family office in Chicago. Our client is looking to add an experienced Financial Planner to the client service team. The individual hired into this newly-created position will work on all aspects of financial management, associated implications of private equity deal transactions, and related cash management activities of three family lines.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage client relationships and provide financial advising services to family office clients.
  • Conduct quarterly meetings with family members, including reviewing a full net worth statement, cash flow projections, and investment purchase & sale information for individuals and entities.
  • Manage cash flows for multiple individuals and entities, and their corresponding investments.
    Participate in the estate planning process, including advising on existing and new entities/initiatives.
  • Assist with tax compliance and planning for individuals and trusts
  • Provide client follow up and other support to senior wealth advisors in the office.
  • Interact with external family advisors, including bankers, attorneys, accountants, and oversee family office analysts.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance preferred
    Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is a plus
  • Minimum of 4 years of direct financial or wealth advising experience, preferred experience of running client meetings independently.
  • Proficient computer skills, including well-versed in the use of Microsoft Excel

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 10+ years as executive assistant with strong administrative and technical capabilities

• Highly proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with minimum typing speed of 80 words per minute

• Effective written and oral communicator

• Must be highly skilled in schedule organization and coordination

• Professional, friendly and confident, both in person and on the telephone
